Image spots, acclaim spots, teases and episodics I made for season 2 of RECTIFY.
Rectify is SundanceTV's signature original series. The goal with this first trailer out of the gate for season 2 was to show the main character, Daniel, going out into the world, experiencing life for the first time in 19 years and the fallout his actions have on those around him.

This is the first trailer I cut for Rectify Season 2. The idea was to show how Daniel's beating and subsequent coma affected everyone in his life. It was ultimately killed so that we could instead focus our promotion on Daniel post-coma.
The song is from Extreme Music and reminded me of Bon Iver which is used in Season 1. I downloaded all the individual instrument tracks and remixed it myself to better fit the cut.

It's all about the music with this one. The song had to match the chutzpah of media quotes we chose. Once I found the track, the promo practically cut itself.

Aside from bragging about how great Rectify is with the media quotes, I wanted this spot to be super intense. I used drum-heavy music, tons of trailer sound effects and quick cuts to hopefully make this mid season marathon a can't-miss event.

Of all the teases I made for the second season of Rectify, this was my favorite. I love how psychotic Aden Young looks at the end.

I was pretty excited when this got approved for air. I can confidently say that I was the first and last person to ever slip black metal music into a spot on SundanceTV.

In addition to making the :60 launch trailer and various acclaim and marathon spots, I got to cut all the episodics for Rectify season 2. Maybe it's because I'm a writer, but I love the challenge of trying to tell the story of an hour-long episode in 30 seconds without giving away any spoilers. It's a delicate balance for sure.

I love that I get to use kick-ass music tracks in these Rectify episodics. They're a pleasure to cut to.

Rectify, as a show, has a very dry sense of humor that it doesn't often get credit for. I tried to put something together than reflected that humor for this episodic.

Tension was the goal for this episodic. Tension and, as always, dramatic head turns.

An episode as wild as this one needed a song that was just as dynamic. I feel like it could be a lost Soundgarden track.

I didn't have scripts for the Rectify episodics. I usually just watched the episode and went with my gut. I remember this one in particular came together extremely quickly.

Love the track on this one. A fun episodic to cut all around.

Since the show itself plays with viewers' perceptions of the main character (ie, is he good or bad?), I decided to make a promo that fell squarely on one side of that argument.

This one's a slow burn. I like the relaxed, but tense music in relation to the anger of the characters.

I really like the intensity of this spot. The music works and the full page cards emphasize the stakes. The challenge was finding good sound ups short enough to fit between the beats.
